Health care reforms already pushing back
against health care costs
Statement by Senate President Pam Jochum
“The Iowa Insurance Division has announced that six companies are seeking to participate in Iowa’s new health care exchange. The exchange will help Iowans compare competing health insurance offers on an ‘apples to apples’ basis.
“I believe the prospect of increased competition is already pushing back against rising health insurance costs. While Wellmark, Iowa’s largest insurer, will not be part of the exchange until next year, the company has announced it will not increase base premium rates for individuals and small businesses in 2014.
“I hope this progress continues and that Iowa will maintain our leadership on health care issues.”
